CBD For Life

The Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) recently commented that Arizona’s police officers can use CBD products. Prior to this clarification, CBD products were considered medical marijuana products.

The agency said it “does not view the use or possession of over-the-counter products containing CBD as constituting the illegal use or possession of marijuana, a dangerous drug, or a narcotic drug,” reported Phoenix New Times.

Several AZPOST applicants have disclosed using CBD products such as topicals on their employment applications.

“Police agencies have seen an increase in the number of applicants that have disclosed the use of products containing CBD during their backgrounds,” said Matt Giordano of AZPOST. “What we are finding is someone who might rub a product containing CBD oil on their elbow or knee before going out for a run.”

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
