Desert Valley Testing, a leader in marijuana testing for Arizona medical marijuana patients and dispensaries, has announced that is has started offering Gas Chromatography and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography testing. These technologies will allow Desert Valley Testing to provide the most accurate Cannabinoid Potency Analysis testing in Arizona.

Gas Chromatography’s instrumentation allow a marijuana flower sample to decarboxylate (convert THCA into THC, marijuana’s psychoactive compound) the same as a patient would when consuming it. The High-Performance Liquid Chromatography instrumentation provides all the active and inactive values to help fine-tune the process and ensure accurate decarbing.

Many patients prefer their marijuana to be tested, so most Arizona dispensaries comply and submit their marijuana for potency and quality testing. The tests can determine the marijuana’s CBD, THC and other cannabinoid potencies, as well as if the marijuana has any contamination from pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides.

Testing can increase the cost of marijuana sold at dispensaries, but safety should always be the main priority when consuming a substance.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
