Denver is currently the “cannabis capital of the U.S.” But, with more states legalizing recreational marijuana, that could change in 2017. Many speculate that multiple cities in California will become the new capital. Others speculate that it might be Las Vegas. Here’s a look at the expected options.

Speaking generally, Los Angeles is the most likely city to be named the new marijuana of the U.S capital. Everyone loves warm weather and the beach! Los Angeles also has about 2 medical marijuana dispensaries per 10,000 residents. The number of recreational marijuana stores to be allowed in these cities is yet to be determined. Celebrity influence in the marijuana industry is heavy in L.A. — Snoop Dogg, Tommy Chong, and many others already have their own marijuana product lines.
Why Seattle? Hempfest takes place in Seattle. It’s the largest marijuana-themed event in the country. Aside from that, there is a heavy concentration of marijuana industry entrepreneurs with ample financial backing entering the industry.
Other cities in California may be contenders, like San Francisco, due to its high concentration of marijuana consumers and companies.

Any one of the cities listed here could easily become the new marijuana capital of the U.S. Denver could keep the title, but it’s unlikely. We should almost expect Los Angeles to dethrone Denver when legal recreational sales start on January 1, 2018. Due to Sheldon Alderman’s blatant opposition of marijuana in general, it may be a little trickier for Las Vegas to become the capital as he’s likely to heavily oppose things like on-site consumption permits, marijuana-friendly resorts, and marijuana clubs.
