Amsterdam lawmakers are planning on passing a law within the next year that would ban foreigners from visiting cannabis cafes. Amsterdam’s mayor, Femke Halsema, recently announced that only Dutch residents will be allowed to visit the city’s 150 cannabis cafes.
For decades, Amsterdam has been known worldwide as the cannabis capital of the world. But it appears that will change by next year. Fortunately, Barcelona can replace Amsterdam as the new cannabis tourism hub of Europe, now that the Spanish city has legalized cannabis clubs, Fodors reported.
It isn’t well known outside of Europe, but recreational marijuana use is legal in the Spanish region of Catalonia, where Barcelona is the capital. Marijuana clubs have flourished across Catalonia over the last few years, with more than 100 clubs now open in Barcelona.
