A former Willcox, Arizona agricultural greenhouse facility will be transforming into a medical marijuana cultivation facility. Green Desert Patient Center was approved in a unanimous Cochise County Planning & Zoning commission vote to convert the property. The county only received three letters opposing the facility and six letters approving of it.
Peoria-based Green Desert Patient Center will only cultivate medical marijuana at the site, which is about 80 miles east of Tucson, according to Cochise County. The harvested flower will be transported to another location for processing. No major changes will be made to the current property as the company plans to use the existing greenhouses and additional buildings to grow their crops.
There will be increased security measures put in place that include secured access, cameras and fencing.
The company expects to hire as many as 20 employees when the facility is ready to begin cultivating.
