The political action committee Safer Arizona is hoping its initiative will make it to Arizona ballots in 2018. Safer Arizona reports already having over 5,000 of the 150,000 required signatures to be on the November 2018 ballot. Under the initiative, felony penalties for simple marijuana possession would be removed, among other items.
The initiative also includes all medical marijuana patients to be able to grow their own marijuana, KTAR News reports. Changes to the Arizona DUI laws are also included in the initiative’s language.
The most recent effort to legalize recreational marijuana in Arizona was in 2016 with Proposition 205, which narrowly failed.
Many Arizona marijuana advocates hope that Safer Arizona’s initiative will make it to the 2018 ballot so that Arizonans will have another opportunity to vote for marijuana legalization.
