Canada Marijuana Legalized

Legislation will be introduced by the Trudeau administration in April to legalize recreational marijuana in Canada. The age to purchase recreational marijuana in Canada will be set at 18.

Individual provinces will have control over the price of marijuana, according to The Star. Provinces will also be able to set different age restrictions for purchasing marijuana.

A limit of four plants grown per household will be in place. The federal task force recommended these basic rules. In December, a lengthy report was delivered by the task force, which included 80 recommendations.

British Columbia MP Peter Julian said, “I believe in legalization.”

Illegal storefront dispensaries have been popping up all over Toronto.

Prime Minister Trudeau said, “We haven’t legalized it yet. Yes, we got a clear mandate to do that. We’ve said we will. We’ve said we’re going to do it to protect our kids and to keep the money out of the pockets of criminals.”

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
