Marijuana possession decriminalization has gone into effect in Israel. Anyone possessing marijuana in public will be fined $275 for a first offense and the fine doubles for a second offense. If someone is caught possessing marijuana a third time within 7 years they’ll be criminally investigated with the possibility of losing either their gun license or driver’s license.

The decriminalization legislation did not set a specific amount, but the country’s Anti-Drug Authority has said that a “personal use amount” is around 15 grams, Israel National News reported.

Israeli medical marijuana cardholders should always have their cards on their person in case there is an encounter with law enforcement. Medical marijuana patients have nothing to worry about as long as they are in possession of approved products.

The law does not apply to:

  • Minors
  • Active military
  • Anyone with a criminal record

If a minor is cited, it’s said that they’ll be “rehabilitated.”  This will help prevent minors from being in the criminal justice system.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
