Marijuana Jobs

The CEO of ZipRecruiter.com, Ian Siegel, says the marijuana industry is the fastest growing job category in the U.S. The company performed a job posting analysis earlier in 2018 to attain this conclusion.

Los Angeles, San Francisco and Denver round out the top 3 locations in the country for marijuana industry job availability, according to Forbes.  Siegel attributes the growth to the inability of the education system to plan how workforce trends will continue from the time children attend school until they enter the workforce.

Siegel said, “Twenty-nine states have legalized marijuana. There’s 445% job growth in job listings in the category year over year. Let me put that in perspective for you — technology jobs are at 245% growth and healthcare positions are rising at 70%.”

Cities also making the top 10 list on ZipRecruiter.com:

  • Seattle
  • Miami
  • Portland
  • Las Vegas
  • San Jose
  • Santa Barbara
  • Tallahassee

Siegel noted, “Our Q4 data for 2017 revealed an especially dramatic leap in the number of new cannabis industry job posts,” which saw a increase of “693% year over year and 79% quarter over quarter.”

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
