A new poll by Yahoo/Marist released this week shows that two-thirds of respondents of a phone survey say that marijuana is safer than opioids, especially when it comes to pain relief. One in five respondents say that opioids are less risky than marijuana, while the remaining respondents weren’t sure.

Prescription opioid and heroin overdoses are responsible for 91 deaths every day in America, and opioid addiction affects more than 2 million Americans, according to Coloradoan. 83-percent of those polled said that marijuana should be legal nationally for medicinal purposes.

When it came to Trump’s approach to recreational marijuana, America really is divided. About 38-percent said he should take a less strict approach and 30-percent say he should be stricter.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
