Mondelez International which makes some of the world’s best-known snack foods, such as Oreos, Chips Ahoy! and Ritz crackers, says it has plans for a CBD-infused product line. However, Mondelez is awaiting guidance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before launching a CBD product line.

Major food and beverage firms like Mondelez and The Coca-Cola Company are being kept from producing CBD-infused products because federal regulators’ delay in making regulations, International Business Times reports.

“Yes, we’re getting ready, but we obviously want to stay within what is legal and play it the right way,” Mondelez CEO Dirk Van de Put said. “Our view on it is that we have a number of family brands, Oreos would be an example, so we feel a bit hesitant doing anything with CBD in family brands. But we have other brands and new brands we can do.”

Once the FDA does issue its guidelines for including CBD in food and beverages, it’s expected that the market will be flooded with CBD-infused foods.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
