The Safest Way to Consume Marijuana Infused Edibles

Marijuana Edibles Safety

Almost all marijuana users love edibles. They give you an excuse to eat delicious sweet treats, they get you a lot higher than other kinds of imbibing, and they are incredibly effective. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to taking edibles. It’s easy to accidentally take too much, mess up your dose, forget, or have a bad time – so be careful.

Here are a few tips for safely ingesting edibles and having the maximum amount of fun possible.

One of the most common problems with edibles is that users will eat some, get impatient waiting for them to kick in, and promptly eat some more, only to end up sitting on the couch staring at the wall for endless hours. It is easy to “dose up” when you don’t feel anything at first, but remember, edibles can take up to an hour and a half — and sometimes even longer — to kick in. So be sure you’ve waited at least an hour before you decide to take another dose.

Everyone’s tolerance is different when it comes to edibles. Usually, height and weight are good indicators of how much you can take. If you are tiny, it’s probably best to take just a little (approximately 5 mg) at first and go from there. If you’re 300 pounds, you can probably take a little more. However, keep in mind that other factors affect tolerance as well, so a good rule of thumb is start off slow, and pay attention to how your body reacts so that you know for next time.

Nowadays, most people buy edibles at dispensaries, but if you don’t have access, or if you just want a good, old-fashioned DIY experience, you may end up making your own edibles at home. Culinary creativity is great, but remember, unless you are a chef, you may not know the exact measurements and ratio of THC in your butter, or in each brownie or cookie. As such, proceed with caution and assume you’ve made extremely strong butter and treats. Eat a fourth or a half of one to start and go from there.

It may sound silly, but edibles can make you forgetful and loopy, and they can affect your short-term memory. As such, it may be a good idea to make a note on your phone or in a notebook about how much you consumed and how it affected you so that you can keep track for future consumption.
