The Arizona Department of Health Services held a lottery today to determine which applicants would be allowed to open marijuana in Arizona. In total, 99 dispensary certificates were originally available to applicants across the state. The AZDHS assigned anonymous lottery ball numbers to applicants and winning applicants’ names were not announced to the public.

The applicants that have won, now have ten months open their doors to patients. Most applicants estimate that it will take 3 to 6 months to get their doors open. Before marijuana dispensaries can officially being selling marijuana to Arizona card holders, they must first meet the Arizona Department of Health’s “Approval to Operate” criteria, which includes scale site plans, copies of all permits, a formal inspection, and other info.
