Thirteen lucky businesses who won a lottery last week that was hosted by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) were awarded licenses to open recreational marijuana dispensaries in rural Arizona counties.
The new Arizona cannabis store licenses are each for a specific county that has fewer than two dispensaries currently operating today, AZcentral reported.
Applicants for the lottery had to invest a nonrefundable $25,000 for the chance to win a license. The ADHS collected over $9 million from all the applications.
Prop 207 legalized cannabis use for adults 21 and older in November 2020. Recreational cannabis stores began opening in February 2021, and hopefully all of the 13 new stores will open in 2021 too.
