Cannabis Regulations

Arizona Marijuana Regulation This Year

This year, Arizona voters will be voting on the Smart and Safe Arizona Act, a ballot measure that would legalize cannabis possession and use for adults 21 and older.

The measure would also allow home marijuana cultivation of up to 6 plants per resident as well as license over 100 dispensaries to sell recreational marijuana to adults. Adults can buy up to one ounce of marijuana.

The measure will be on the state’s November ballots.

Arizona Medical Marijuana Regulation This Year

Currently, Arizona has legalized marijuana for medicinal use. If an Arizona resident has at least one qualifying condition they can get a medical marijuana card (green card) and shop at any of the state-licensed dispensaries. Nearly 90% of Arizona’s medical marijuana patients claim chronic pain as their qualifying health condition.

Medical marijuana doctor appointments cost approximately $150. Medical marijuana cards are valid for two years. Patients can purchase 2.5 ounces of marijuana every two weeks from Arizona dispensaries.

⚡️

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
