Arizona Marijuana Extracts Laws

The Arizona Supreme Court is expected to rule on the legality of medical marijuana extracts on Tuesday, May 28. Extracts are used to make many medical marijuana products such as oils, tinctures, vaporizer cartridges, edibles and more.

Arizona’s medical marijuana program has nearly 200,000 patients, many of which rely on extracts to get their medicine. For instance, patients with lung ailments shouldn’t smoke marijuana, and therefore need an extract-made product to get their medicine.

Everything will remain the same if the justices rule that extracts are to remain legal in Arizona. However, if they rule against extracts, dispensaries will no longer be able to sell extracts and patients will no longer be able to possess or use extracts legally.

Call and email the following lawmakers and let them know that patients throughout Arizona rely on medical marijuana extracts for their medicine.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
