The Arizona Supreme Court ruled on May 28th that medical marijuana extracts are legal. Arizona dispensaries can continue to sell extracts and medical marijuana patients can legally purchase, possess and use extracts under the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act (AMMA).
The Court concluded: “We hold that the definition of marijuana in § 36-2801(8) includes resin, and by extension hashish, and that § 36-2811(B)(1) immunizes the use of such marijuana consistent with AMMA.”
Marijuana extracts are used to make many medical marijuana products such as oils, tinctures, vaporizer cartridges, edibles and more.
Arizona’s medical marijuana program has 200,000 patients, many of which rely on extracts to get their medicine. For instance, patients with lung ailments shouldn’t smoke marijuana, and therefore need an extract-made product to get their medicine.
The Court’s ruling will positively effect thousands of Arizonans who are in need of medical marijuana extracts for the treatment of their health ailments.
