Doug Ducey, the former Arizona Governor and cannabis legalization opponent, took to Twitter to announce his new position as CEO of the Citizens for Free Enterprise political action committee.
“Citizens for Free Enterprise stands at the center of the fight for continued American prosperity,” the political action committee’s site states. “We promote free enterprise, so all Americans understand the role it has in creating a dynamic economy and people’s ability to climb the income ladder.”
In 2020, Ducey received backlash among the state’s cannabis consumers when he stated that the ballot initiative to legalize recreational marijuana in Arizona was “a bad idea based on false promises,” as reported by Tucson.com. Yet the governor didn’t provide any evidence to support his statement.
Arizona legalized marijuana for medical use in 2010 and for recreational use in 2020. It is legal for Arizona medical marijuana patients and anyone 21 or older to buy marijuana products from Arizona dispensaries.
