The Pima County Attorney Office (PCAO) announced that it will dismiss pending cases for simple possession of marijuana for personal use cases now that Arizona voters have legalized recreational marijuana via Prop 207.
Pima County, which the city of Tucson resides, has spent little time over the years enforcing or arresting people for simple marijuana possession, Arizona Daily Star reported. For this reason, “only a handful of possession cases” are currently in the courts.
“Pima County law enforcement does not spend their time policing small-time, low-level marijuana crime,” said Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall. “They have always focused on far more pressing crime issues.”
Days after voters voted to approve Prop 207, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) announced it will begin dismissing pending and unfiled charges of simple possession of marijuana. Phoenix resides in Maricopa County.
