AZ Cannabis Legalization

To date, 33 states have legalized the medical use of marijuana while 11 have legalized recreational marijuana for adult use and possession.

In 2020, which also happens to be a major election year, there will be 7 states attempting to legalize recreational marijuana, The Motley Fool reported.

These are the 7 states attempting to legalize marijuana in 2020:

Arizona – A ballot initiative for marijuana legalization is in the signature gathering stage.

Arkansas – Multiple amendments for marijuana legalization are in the signature gathering stage.

Florida – Multiple amendments for marijuana legalization are in the signature gathering stage.

Missouri – An amendment for marijuana legalization is in the signature gathering stage.

New Jersey – An amendment for marijuana legalization is in the signature gathering stage.

New Mexico – A bill to legalize marijuana is in the works and New Mexico’s governor is pro-legalization.

South Dakota – An amendment for marijuana legalization is in the signature gathering stage.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
