Marijuana legislators in Washington State have officially issued the first recreational marijuana cultivation license.

Kouchlock Productions in Spokane will be the first recreational marijuana cultivator in Washington State. Kouchlock is located in Spokane. With this license, Kouchlock will be able to operate a cultivation site covering up to 21,000 square feet. They will also be permitted to produce infused products such as hash oil and marijuana edibles.

The greatest impact that Kouchlock’s CEO Seth Green feels this will have on the state of Washington is the increase in jobs that will be granted by his new operation. “I’m coming home with jobs, Spokane” Green said.

Dispensary licenses have not yet been issued, as Washington is still sorting through its nearly three thousand cultivation permits, which will begin to be issued regularly.

The hope is that issuing a multitude of cultivation licenses will prevent any sort of marijuana shortage that other states have been seeing.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
