According to a new survey by YouGov, a majority of Americans believe that medical marijuana dispensaries should be deemed “essential services” and therefore remain open during the current “stay-at-home” lockdowns due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Most Americans (53%) believe medical marijuana dispensaries should be considered essential services,” YouGov said.
The survey data also found that 26% of people believe medical marijuana dispensaries “should not be considered essential services” while 21% said they “don’t know.”
Many states have imposed stay-at-home orders on their residents to slow the spread of coronavirus. Fortunately, thus far, every state has deemed medical marijuana dispensaries essential because they provide medicine to people. Some states have even deemed recreational dispensaries essential because cannabis can help people cope with anxiety and depression.
“Democrats (62%) are more likely than Independents (52%) and Republicans (43%) to say this.”
