Australia Marijuana

Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is the first region in Australia to legalize personal possession and cultivation of marijuana. Those over the age of 18 can possess up to 50 grams (almost 2 ounces) of marijuana. Adults over the age of 18 can also grow up to 2 plants.

Marijuana produced from home-cultivated plants may not be gifted or sold to anyone else, according to  9 News Australia.

This law will be examined again in 3 years.

Local Michael Pettersson said, “Commonwealth law has been written with the express understanding that there are differences. I don’t think it’s particularly likely the Commonwealth government will try to fight this.”

The Health Minister is expected to sign the bill soon so the law can officially go into effect.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
