Vermont senator and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders congratulated the Vermont Legislature for legalizing marijuana late last week.
Vermont is now the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana use and possession for adults 21 and older. However, Bernie doesn’t want to stop with Vermont. He wants to see the United States of American legalize marijuana.
“Now, it is time for Congress and the federal government to end the war on drugs and legalize marijuana nationwide,” Bernie tweeted.
The state is also expunging past marijuana convictions.
Bernie tweeted in celebration after legalization passed this week. The tweet quickly soared to 200,000 likes.
Let me congratulate the state legislature for making Vermont the 11th state in the country to legalize marijuana and also for expunging past marijuana convictions. Now, it is time for Congress and the federal government to end the war on drugs and legalize marijuana nationwide.
