If you’ve been looking for a way to play a bigger role in the marijuana industry, the Bureau of Medical Cannabis Regulation (BCMR) in California is in need of additional staff to help create recreational marijuana laws for the state.

This is a volunteer position, as reported by SF Weekly, and you’ll have to endure a seven-page application. Your prior industry experience must be included along with a proper resume and letters of recommendation. The California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) is the jurisdiction overseeing this committee.

In a release, the DCA said, “Committee members are selected by and serve at the pleasure of the Director of the Department of Consumer Affairs.”

The committee will be formed from those with knowledge of medical marijuana and the healing properties of the plant. The DCA is also looking for those that are involved in communities negatively affected by federal and state drug policies.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
