Recreational marijuana became legal in October 17, 2018 in Canada. And in just 2 ½ months, the country reported $115 million in sales. The sales figure would have been larger, but the country is facing an ongoing shortage of marijuana.
The sales totals were released by Statistics Canada, The Motley Fool reports. The shortage is impeding the country’s marijuana market from booming.
Each month’s sales totals:
- October: $32.7 million USD
- November: $40.4 million USD
- December: $41.9 million USD
As the government catches up with getting licenses issued and more cultivators growing, marijuana supply should increase. Once supply is reestablished, sales numbers are expected to skyrocket (again).
