Denver Cannabis Sales

Colorado marijuana sales have surpassed $6 billion since recreational legalization took place in January 2014. Last year was a record year for the state as it took in almost $1 billion in taxes and fees from $1.55 billion in sales, according to the Colorado Department of Revenue Marijuana Enforcement Division.

Sales in 2017 hit $1.51 billion, the Denver Post reports. The state is on track to set more records this year as they are already reporting having taken in $927 million from fees, licensing and taxes.

Even though recreational marijuana has been legally sold in the state for 5 years, sales and tax revenues continue to flourish.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
