Company Selling Pipes for Bernie Sanders’s Campaign

With Bernie Sanders’s open support of marijuana legalization, one business owner is supporting the Presidential candidate in his own way. Ceramic pipe creator, Ariel Zimman, has a line of smoking ware specifically designed with the Sanders’s campaign logos. Other marijuana industry supporters have created bumper stickers.

Zimman says that 10-percent of the sales proceeds are donated directly to the campaign. The bumper sticker maker, Jackie Dandelion, donates to the campaign as well. She does not disclose the exact amount on her website, but includes a disclaimer noting that a portion of the proceeds is donated to Sanders’s campaign.

The legality of promoting logo gear to donate toward political campaigns raises a few eyebrows. Experienced attorneys warn against advertising products for sale and directly indicating that campaign donations are being made from the proceeds. Use of the logos without permission have also raised a bit of concern as well.

Zimman made a statement to The Center for Public Integrity saying, “It was really just a way to show my support for him as a candidate. People love [the pipes], and once they hear they are contributing in some way to the campaign, they are all about that too.”
