The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just announced that is will ban sales of flavored e-cigarette cartridges in 30 days. Only menthol and tobacco flavors will be permitted. The new regulation applies to cartridge-based vaporizer products like those made by Juul.
The FDA said, “Under this policy companies that do not cease manufacture, distribution and sale of unauthorized flavored cartridge-based e-cigarettes (other than tobacco or menthol) within 30 days risk FDA enforcement actions,” Reason reported.
The new regulation excludes refillable, flavored vaporizer liquids often sold in vape/head shops.
The FDA Commissioner stated that the agency aims to “combat the troubling epidemic of youth e-cigarette use” by eliminating “certain flavored e-cigarette products we know are so appealing to teenagers—so-called cartridge-based products that are both easy to use and easily concealable.”
