Former Saturday Night Live cast member Jim Belushi will be lighting up screens in late August with his new television series on the Discovery Channel called “Growing Belushi.” The series is based on life at Belushi’s marijuana cultivation farm in Oregon.

“This is much more than a business for me,” Belushi told Deadline. “I’ve seen the positive impact that cannabis has had in treating people from around the world. Everything grows in Growing Belushi. The cannabis, the business, the family. And especially me. We almost called it Growing Pains.”

Belushi started growing marijuana a few years ago with 48-plants and now has a thriving cultivation operation that sells multiple brands throughout Oregon.

“We are always looking for a show that takes you by surprise and this one did – it’s fun and funny and has a lot of heart,” said Nancy Daniels, Chief Brand Officer for Discovery. “I think people will see Jim Belushi in a whole new way after watching.”

Dan Aykroyd and The Blues Brothers will be guest stars in the series.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
