ER Marijuana

JAMA Pediatrics released a new study displaying an increase in emergency room visits regarding marijuana poisoning for children in Colorado.

The number of children under the age of 10 visiting the ER for marijuana-related reasons has doubled all the way up to a meager 16 cases in 2015. Meanwhile, opponents of marijuana legalization, such as Kevin Sabet, are over embellishing the study’s statistics by only telling the American people that “more kids in hospital in CO after legalization – says JAMA,” as Sabet shared via twitter, reports The Washington Post.

Nationally, reports show that kids are much more likely to be poisoned from household items like crayons, toothpaste and diaper cream than they are by marijuana. The calls to poison control centers regarding tobacco poisoning in adolescents is more than 15 times the number of marijuana-related calls.

Marijuana edibles are desirable to children given that most made as cookies, brownies and candy. Although, Colorado’s Poison Control Center only receives about 2.3 per 1,000 calls regarding marijuana.
