PTSD
New data published in the journal Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research reveals that people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who use marijuana exhibit reduced symptoms when compared to non-users.

Persons obtained marijuana via state programs and used marijuana flowers, NORML reported.

“This study provides evidence that the types of cannabis available in recreational and medical cannabis dispensaries might hold promise as an alternative treatment for PTSD,” the study noted. “This study’s primary outcome supports the theory that cannabis should be [tested in clinical trials] as a potential therapeutic for PTSD.”

The study authors concluded that marijuana users showed a more than two-fold rate of remission from their PTSD diagnosis.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
