Marijuana School

The School of Pharmacy at the University of Maryland Baltimore is now offering a Master of Science degree in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics.

The 2-year degree’s courses are designed to help marijuana scientists, regulators, cultivators, dispensary owners, healthcare professionals and others working in the legal marijuana industry, Fox 5 News reported.

“Our MS in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics has been critically designed to prepare students to meet this demand,” said Dean Natalie D. Eddington. “Innovations in instructional design throughout the curriculum will provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to make a positive impact on communities across the United States.”

To offer students full flexibility, the degree’s classes will primarily be held online with an in-person seminar held once per semester. Classes begin on August 26.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
