Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery is sailing past public criticisms as his second attempt to become an Arizona Supreme Court judge moves forward. The Commission on Appellate Court Appointments will interview Montgomery and the 8 other final applicants on July 26 for the judgeship.
Chief Justice Scott Bales is retiring on July 31 and Governor Ducey will have to recommend at least 3 of those final applicants for the judgeship, Phoenix New Times reports.
Montgomery’s ability to perform the duties necessary to be an impartial judge have been questioned numerous times. Montgomery’s first attempt at the judgeship was quickly squashed due to claims of misconduct and an onslaught of messages from the public voicing their displeasure with the county attorney.
Arizonans are urged to contact Governor Doug Ducey and the Arizona Commissions on Appellate and Trial Court Appointments to voice their opinion of Montgomery and/or the other Supreme Court applicants.
