Arizona’s medical marijuana program added approximately 34,000 patients in 2019, an 18% increase over 2018.
Nearly 3% of the state’s total population now comprises of medical marijuana patients, which is one of the highest patient-to-non-patient percentages in the nation, Mjbizdaily reported.
Medical marijuana sales in Arizona also grew. Dispensaries sold a record 166,000 pounds of medical marijuana in 2019, a 34% increase from 124,000 pounds in 2018.
Noteworthy data in Arizona:
- Approximately 50% of patients are under 40
- Approximately 60% of patients are male
- 90% of patients have chronic pain as their qualifying medical condition
- Fewer than 120 licensed dispensaries are operating
A ballot initiative in Arizona to legalize recreational cannabis use for adults will likely go before voters in Nov 2020.
