The Arizona Department of Health Services’ (ADHS) June 2019 medical marijuana program report reveals that Arizona has:

  • Medical marijuana patients: 203,516
  • Caregivers: 756
  • Dispensary agents: 6,158

In June 2019, Arizona dispensaries sold a total of 13,379 pounds of marijuana (214,068 ounces). Types of marijuana sold:

  • Marijuana flower: 12,183 pounds (194,928 ounces)
  • Marijuana edibles: 464 pounds
  • Other marijuana: 732 pounds

The age ranges of Arizona’s medical marijuana patients are:

  • Under 18: 189
  • 18 to 30: 49,617
  • 31 to 40: 42,836
  • 41 to 50: 32,599
  • 51 to 60: 32,012
  • 61 to 70: 32,869
  • 71 to 80: 11,332
  • 81 and older: 2,062

According to the data, the sexes of Arizona’s patients are:

  • 120,812 males (59.36%)
  • 82,704 females (40.64%)

Patients’ medical marijuana qualifying conditions:

  • Chronic Pain: 180,128 (88.51%)
  • Cancer: 4,090
  • PTSD: 2,442
  • Seizures: 1,229
  • Muscle Spasms: 945
  • Glaucoma: 1,110
  • Hepatitis C: 743

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
