Arizona’s summer heatwave is scorching the entire state. But for cannabis consumers the high heat comes with a silver lining: free weed!

Mint Cannabis, a medical and recreational marijuana dispensary chain with five locations in Arizona, announced in June that it is giving a free pre-roll to customers aged 21 and above at any of its five metro Phoenix dispensaries on any day in 2023 when the temperature at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport reaches 110 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, as per the official reading. And no purchase is necessary.

Arizona has already endured over 22 days this year with the heat exceeding 110°F. And weather forecasts show the hot temperatures will likely continue all of July, which means the state will continue making new high-heat records.

Mint’s dispensaries:

– Mint dispensary: 5210 S. Priest Drive, Tempe, AZ 85283
– Mint dispensary: 330 E. Southern Ave., Mesa, AZ 85210
– Mint dispensary: 17036 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85032
– Mint dispensary: 2444 W Northern Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85021
– Mint dispensary: 1211 N. 75th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85043

To participate in the summer pre-roll giveaway, customers must be 21 years or older and present valid identification at any Mint Cannabis dispensary in the metro Phoenix area. This promotion is limited to one free pre-roll per customer per day during eligible high-temperature days. Mint Cannabis encourages customers to follow the Arizona Department of Health Services’ guidelines and consume cannabis responsibly.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
