Level Up
Level Up, a high-end medical marijuana dispensary in Scottsdale that is veteran-owned, has found a way to give back to a segment of their patients that they hold very near and dear to their hearts. In partnership with Packages From Home, the dispensary has started a charity drive called “Munchies for the Military” and is asking its patients to donate Pop-Tarts to troops serving overseas.

Why Pop-Tarts? They may be commonplace to civilians, but to those serving overseas, Pop-Tarts are a hot commodity. According to the nonprofit Packages From Home, Pop-Tarts are the most requested item in care packages for troops.

Packages From Home’s mission is to send care and comfort packages to deployed American military as well as to facilitate activities that elevate morale of all veterans.

“When I was in Saudi Arabia I sat out in the desert with no prospect of receiving anything from home,” said Mike, a medical marijuana patient and Marine Corps veteran. “Now the guys have access to support from home that just wasn’t available before. It reminds the guys of why they’re there and why they are sacrificing so much for America’s freedom.”

“It’s great to have folks like Level Up standing behind us (Packages From Home) who are able to host drives for donations and shipping fees, especially when they are taking the top requested item and are allowing us to send them to places all around the world where Pop-Tarts are not available,” said Packages From Home. “It’s a way to remind them that they are loved, supported and their work will not go unnoticed or forgotten.”

The donation started mid-February and, to date, Level Up has sold over 178 boxes of Pop-Tarts, collecting over $890. Patients have even started bringing in their own boxes of Pop-Tarts for donation at Level Up.

Level Up has decided to extend Munchies for the Military through the end of April 2018. Persons interested in supporting the troops can stop by Level Up Scottsdale or visit packagesfromhome.org or levelupscottsdale.com.

State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
