Arizona Hemp Farming

The Hemp Industry Trade Association of Arizona (HITA-AZ), the state’s first hemp-specific, non-governmental agricultural organization, will host a monthly networking event Thursday, May 23rd, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Modern Grove Views at OdySea in the Desert, located at 9500 East Vía de Ventura in Scottsdale.

Open to the public, the meeting will include a speaker panel with industry experts and members of the Arizona Department of Agriculture.

Co-founded by hemp experts Sully Sullivan, Laura Franklin and Danielle Sedgwick, HITA-AZ debuted to a standing room only crowd of more than 350 agricultural experts, business leaders and entrepreneurs on April 11th.

“We’re here to honor Arizona’s rich farming history while also supporting its future in the burgeoning hemp market,” said Sullivan. “We are committed to helping Arizona’s greater agricultural community survive and thrive.”

The upcoming May 23rd meeting will be moderated by Sullivan with high-profile speakers, including:

  • Alex Holley, Arizona Dept of Agriculture Hemp Rules Committee Member
  • Colleen Lanier, Executive Director of Hemp Industries Association, and Arizona Dept of Agriculture Hemp Rules Committee Member
  • William Jamieson, MA, Hemp Expert and Director of Operations for Bright Orchard Developments
  • Michael Stoltz, Arizona Dept of Agriculture Hemp Rules Committee Member

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
