On Saturday, January 20 over 45 former athletes and alternative health practitioners converge at Starfire Golf Club in Scottsdale for a day long event focused on wellness without the use of opioids and the many natural benefits of cannabis as an alternative to addictive and harmful medications. Participating athletes include former two-time Super Bowl champion Jim McMahon, former Arizona Cardinal running back Damien Anderson, NFL defensive end and Super Bowl champion Marvin Washington, eight-time Pro Bowl selection and Football Hall of Fame honoree Chris Doleman and, just announced, four-time NBA champion John Salley.
Iraq combat veteran and founder of Mission Zero, Jose Belen, will also be in attendance. Belen’s non-profit organization is dedicated to ending veteran suicide and bring awareness to the national veteran suicide epidemic. Belen and Marvin Washington are two of the five plaintiffs involved in the lawsuit against Attorney General Jeff Sessions over medical marijuana that also includes a 12-year old who uses cannabis oil to ward of lifethreatening seizures, and a 6-year-old who is being treated for Leigh syndrome.
