Arizona Cannabis Dispensary

The Arizona Department of Health Services’ (ADHS) latest medical marijuana program report, which covers October 2018, reveals that Arizona has:

  • 182,784 medical marijuana patients
  • 895 caregivers
  • 5,419 dispensary agents

The age ranges of Arizona’s medical marijuana patients are:

  • Under 18: 189
  • 18 to 30: 44,393
  • 31 to 40: 38,085
  • 41 to 50: 28,818
  • 51 to 60: 29,604
  • 61 to 70: 29,846
  • 71 to 80: 9,904
  • 81 and older: 1,945

According to the data, the sexes of Arizona’s patients are:

  • 109,174 males (59.73%)
  • 73,610 females (40.27%)

Patients’ medical marijuana qualifying conditions:

  • Chronic Pain: 159,723 (87.38%)
  • Cancer: 4,033
  • PTSD: 2,299
  • Seizures: 1,236
  • Muscle Spams: 876
  • Glaucoma: 1,109
  • Hepatitis C: 756
  • Nausea: 789
  • HIV/AIDS: 671
  • Crohn’s disease: 590
  • Cachexia: 130
  • Alzheimer’s disease: 72
  • Sclerosis: 34
  • Two or more conditions: 10,466

The counties with the most medical marijuana patients:

  • Maricopa County: 117,662
  • Pima County: 25,483
  • Pinal County: 10,611
  • Yavapai County: 9,145
  • Mohave County: 5,109
  • Coconino County: 3,733

In October, Arizona dispensaries sold a total of 11,271 pounds of marijuana (180,348 ounces):

  • Marijuana flower: 10,352 pounds (165,647 ounces)
  • Marijuana edibles: 426 pounds
  • Other marijuana: 492 pounds

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
