Arizona’s Leaf for Life, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization focused on medical cannabis education, will host a Veterans Family Night Out in partnership with the Phoenix Suns at 7 p.m. on November 8 at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix.

The event tips-off with a pre-game reception hosted by Leaf for Life celebrating veterans and their families. Following the festivities, attendees will get to enjoy courtside entertainment as the Phoenix Suns match-up against the Boston Celtics.

Open to the public, tickets are $69 and include unlimited concessions. For information or to register, Leaf4life.org.

Established in 2018, Leaf for Life’s mission is to help educate veterans and families on medical cannabis alternatives. The organization develops programs and events that are inclusively designed for veterans and their family members.

Leaf for Life co-founders Danielle Sedgwick and Laura Franklin both have family members who are American military veterans and suffer from PTSD. Their shared experiences served as an impetus to start a larger support network for those in need.

“We are both cannabis industry professionals and have witnessed firsthand how holistic medical cannabis treatments can help. We started Leaf for Life to provide support for the entire family, because it’s not just veterans who are experiencing the residual side-effects of the war at home,” stated Sedgwick.

Through its programs, Leaf for Life is dedicated to destigmatizing the myths surrounding the cannabis plant, while offering a safe discussion forum for healthcare matters affecting veterans.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
