Marijuana Will Officially Be Legalized in Arizona Today (Nov 30) at 11am

Proposition 207

On November 3, Arizona become the 13th state to legalize cannabis when voters approved Prop 207. The new law is known as the Smart and Safe Arizona Act (SSAA).

The Arizona Secretary of State’s office announced it will certify the ballots on Monday, November 30. This official act will legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older in Arizona.

“It’s decriminalized once the initiative passes and is certified by the Secretary of State, but legal sales won’t begin until around March of 2021,” Stacey Pearson, Campaign Manager for Smart and Safe Arizona, told 12 News.

Marijuana use and possession will be legal in Arizona as soon as the ballots are certified, thus allowing adults 21 and older to legally grow, use and possess marijuana. Adults can possess up to one ounce of marijuana with no more than 5 grams being concentrates (extracts). However, adults won’t be able to legally buy marijuana until dispensaries get licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) to sell it, which will likely be in March 2021.

Many medical marijuana dispensaries will get licensed to sell both medical and recreational marijuana from their current location. Fewer than two dozen recreational-only dispensary locations will open in Arizona.
