Ohio
The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control has issued dual-use certificates of operation to 98 medical cannabis dispensaries, which will be allowed to sell to adults starting August 6. Adults 21 years of age or older with a valid ID will be able to purchase a total of up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and up to 15 grams of concentrate.

Less than a year ago, Ohioans approved the MPP-backed measure (Issue 2) to legalize, regulate, and tax cannabis for adults’ use with 57% of the vote, making Ohio the 24th state to legalize cannabis for adult use, and the 14th state to do so through a ballot question approved by voters.

“Today we celebrate as Ohioans’ support for legalization culminates in the launch of a regulated adult-use cannabis market,” said the Marijuana Policy Project. “This milestone will not only generate substantial economic benefits for the state, but will increase personal freedom and end the injustice of cannabis prohibition.”

MPP was a major financial supporter of the Issue 2 campaign in Ohio. The organization’s involvement in Ohio cannabis reform efforts dates back to 2015, when MPP joined forces with local advocates to spearhead a ballot initiative campaign to enact medical cannabis, which spurred the legislature to pass the state’s medical cannabis law.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
