Arizona-based recycling startup Resinate has teamed up with some Arizona medical marijuana dispensaries to assist with recycling plastic containers that dispensaries sometimes sell marijuana in.
So far in 2020, Resinate has recycled nearly 160 pounds of recyclables (over 8,300 plastic containers). Their recycling intake will increase further when they put a recycling container at Oasis Cannabis’ new dispensary location in Glendale on Sunday, August 30. In early August, Resinate put recycling containers at Oasis Cannabis’ two dispensary locations in Chandler. Resinate also has a recycling container at Mission dispensary in North Phoenix.
“Our new mission is to reach 1 million recycled plastic containers saved from landfills and nature, made into something better with help from the community,” Resinate co-founder Garret Schwartz told AZmarijuana.com.
Plastic containers that marijuana and prescription medications are sold in can be recycled if they are “#5 plastic.” These can be identified by locating the brand “Calyx” or at least two of these three symbols on the bottom of the container: a triangle, #5 or PP.
Oftentimes, small plastic recyclables can’t be recycled by cities, so they fall through the cracks and end up in landfills.
Resinate “upcycles” the recycled plastics into planters and cannabis rolling trays for filling pre-roll cones.
