CBG

The cannabis-derived substance Cannabidiol (CBD) has recently become a well-known health treatment option for ailments such as anxiety, pain and inflammation. But now a new substance, Cannabigerol (CBG), is coming to light for it’s potent healing abilities and is already being referred to as “CBD on steroids.”

CBG is like a stem cell in cannabis because it is a precursor to other cannabinoids, such as CBD and THC, during the early flowering process. It also works with both the CB1 and CB2 receptors in humans.

As a non-psychoactive THC inhibitor, CBG inhibits side effects like anxiety and paranoia that can come with higher levels of THC usage. Enhanced euphoric feelings can come from CBG because it is capable of boosting the neurotransmitter Anandamide, the “bliss molecule,” which helps regulate mood, sleep and appetite, while increasing dopamine levels.

CBG may help with:

  • Anxiety
  • Chronic pain
  • IBS
  • Glaucoma
  • Insomnia
  • Osteoporosis
  • Epilepsy
  • MRSA
  • Huntington’s Disease

Curaleaf, which offers CBG at their dispensaries in Arizona, suggests taking 1mg per 10-20 pounds of body mass (and to always start on the low end to determine what works for you) or 1mg per 7 pounds of body weight for those with severe symptoms. Curaleaf’s CBG tincture is formulated with 9mg of CBG per 1ml of tincture in a 60ml bottle.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
