Tucson Cannabis Event

A new, annual marijuana celebration on May 20 has emerged in Tucson. The “5.20 in the (520)” event will be held at Musselman Honda Circuit from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is family-friendly and free.

The event’s organizer, Aari Ruben, from Desert Bloom dispensary, believes it’s a great opportunity to create an annual, local event that helps educate the Tucson community about medical marijuana and its benefits, Tucson Weekly reports. He said, “We’re thinkin’ 5/20 in the five-two-oh will be a cool Southern Arizona tradition for years to come.”

This is an opportunity for the Tucson area to have a separate celebration that isn’t overshadowed by many 4/20 celebrations where vendors and dispensaries are often busy with their own promotions. Ruben said, “It’ll become a big festival-style hippie party with a focus on the Southern Arizona cannabis industry.”

O.penVAPE will have samples available. Swag and other products will be available from other vendors. Food trucks will be on-site to offer refreshments. The event will also feature a few 420-style games.

Brianda Valdez of Bloom Dispensary said, “We haven’t really been a part of any of the celebrations in Tucson and we’re just excited to engage in the community and get our name out there.”

Desert Bloom dispensary is hosting the event and will have samples and products available. Only those with a valid Arizona medical marijuana card may sample or purchase products.

Arizona legalized marijuana for recreational use in November 2020. The law allows adults aged 21+ to purchase, possess and use cannabis. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries began selling recreational marijuana in early 2021. There are over 150 dispensaries in Arizona — a majority of them are in populous areas such as Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Recreational cannabis delivery services began operating in 2024.
