Americans’ Marijuana Use Is Getting Higher and Higher Every Year

Weed

The Rockefeller Institute of Government recently released federal data regarding Americans’ marijuana use. It shows that monthly recreational marijuana use in non-legal states has increased 33% since 2002 and by 47% in legal states.

In New York alone, almost 10% of the state’s population admits to using marijuana, the New York Post reported. That represents a 3% increase since 2002. Oregon, of course, was at the top of the list with a 20% increase since legalization took place, doubling its numbers since 2002.

Rockefeller Institute Interim Executive Director Patricia Strach said, “With the continued legalization and general increase in marijuana use, knowing the data and what they mean will be increasingly important. This analysis and new data tools offer valuable guidance for policymakers going forward.”

Marijuana remains illegal in South Carolina, but it’s reported that there’s been an increase of 6.7% in use among adults. In Vermont, there’s been a 19.3% increase in adult marijuana use.
