FDA Approves Yale University for 2 Marijuana Studies

Researchers at Yale have received approval from the FDA and the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection to conduct two marijuana studies.

One study will determine how marijuana works while the other the efficacy of marijuana for pain relief, the New Haven Independent reported.

Psychiatrist Rajita Sinha is leading the studies. She said, “There’s obviously a big movement going on across the country to assess and think about how medical marijuana products could be useful to alleviate patients. We wanted to see if we could understand it better: How does it work? Who does it work for? What doses do we need? Can we learn more about it? Which symptoms can be alleviated?”

The Yale researchers received approval to use marijuana grown in Connecticut by CTPharma after negotiating with regulators for over 2 years.

Connecticut Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle Seagull said, “We believe Connecticut really has the best medical marijuana program in the country. It’s because, from the beginning, we really were determined to have a true medical program, and we feel really good we’ve succeeded in doing that.”
