Requests for marijuana deliveries are expected to reach high numbers this weekend. Pre-Christmas deliveries increased 22-percent for Eaze, a premier marijuana delivery service in California. On Christmas day, however, delivery requests were down as supplies were purchased either December 23, Christmas Eve or December 26.
On December 31, 2015, Eaze reported a 71-percent increase in delivery requests, according to Forbes. New Year’s Day deliveries in 2016 were up 41-percent. In general, right before and right after major holidays, including Thanksgiving, marijuana deliveries increase. Speaking of Thanksgiving, the day before Thanksgiving is called Green Wednesday in the marijuana industry and delivery requests are 71-percent higher than any other Wednesday throughout the year.
Some believe that the increase in marijuana deliveries is to help deal with stress and anxiety. For others, it’s more entertainment. In some marijuana markets, edibles are permitted to be at parties and included on buffet tables, with warnings in place of course.
Josh King of Avvo said, “If recreational marijuana is legal, you are welcome to serve pot brownies at your party. Probably a good idea to let attendees know before they munch.”
Another theory for the increased sales numbers is that gifting marijuana is popular among friends, and some party hosts may want marijuana and/or edibles to be part of the party. It also helps that many medical marijuana dispensaries and retail shops offer holiday specials. April 20th, marijuana’s “holiday,” is typically one of the biggest sales days in the marijuana industry.
